Movie Review: Inception

“Christopher Nolan’s mind-breaking, visual cinematic feast is punctuated by his storytelling style – and it works brilliantly.”

During lunchtime, I was served with a large burger with both patties laid down side by side. Naturally, I’d need to put one on top of the other before munching in; nothing really special, visually.

But what if you could witness half of a city block just rise up in front of your eyes and fold over on top of the other? - That would really make you react in wonder.

A scene like this was just one of the many eye-popping moments Christopher Nolan’s latest brainchild “Inception” had brought to the table. And there’s a lot more on the menu that he laid down.

Nolan the magician

Again just like in past works before this (Batman Begins, The Prestige and The Dark Knight), Christopher Nolan works his magic here by waving his wand and injecting this directorial style of putting in an engaging pace boosted by fine camera work and pounding background music. This isn’t your typical formulaic blockbuster blueprint that is found in movies like “Transformers”, for example, where special effects are the lead staple and sadly, showing less of the story value and workable plot. Nolan has his signature style – and it works effectively.

The actors soar

When the portrayals of the actors come together and evoke their feelings spot on, the director’s job get a tad easier – and better. From Leonardo DiCaprio’s lead actor role, Ellen Page’s sensitivity, Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s ace supporting acting and Tom Hardy’s wit and humor, their characterizations were felt and it brought up the film’s interest several notches higher.

Action, visual artistry … and even some emotional depth

After Nolan’s awesome directing and the non-stop action spread throughout the movie in large, welcome doses, the visual artistry that is based on the premise that the characters are acting in their own dreams, is clearly one of the highlights of the movie. Arthur’s (played by Gordon-Levitt) key scenes that show him fighting off their enemies and helping his companions inside a hotel – and under zero gravity, is definitely impressive. But the emotional depth involving DiCarpio’s character crisis, is the added and welcome feature, evoking the theme of valuing your relationships and the importance of making things right even after doing something wrong in the past.

“Inception” is a thinking moviegoer’s film. It will massage your mind trying to understand the story, but what sets it apart from the rest is that is also adds the key elements of a blockbuster movie formula of great action and cool special effects.

Throw in the great acting plus the warm, emotional depth and what we have here is another Nolan masterpiece.

The film is just so good, that for awhile there, even “The Dark Knight” becomes just a distant memory.

FILM RATING: 4 1/4 stars (out of 5)

Movie Feature: Salt

New Angelina Jolie Movie Salt

by Sam Lynx

So what happens to a movie when the main actor is no longer fit for the role? Well they just say goodbye to him or her and hello to the replacement. And for the Entertainment business there is nothing better than controversy and a great way to do that was with SALT, placing an actress like Angelina Jolie into a type of acting role previously dominated by the best looking men on the planet such as in previous mega spy movies, such as Bourne and mission Impossible with Tom Cruise the role of the highly intelligent and mysterious government worker who risks his life at a daily basis has always been more easily accepted as credible by the society as a whole.

Unfortunately for all the male actors out there their job has just started to get harder with the new generations of customers having been wholly raised in a world where gender discrimination is severely frowned upon, the ladies are starting the opportunity to rise to the occasion and show the world what they are really capable of which in some cases is way beyond the average buy who does not always have to work as hard and thus get a wee bit lazy.

Her new movie has just released a first trailer and poster and has already crowds of people talking about how they are so over Angelina playing the tough girl on the block capable of handling any situation, I would not mention where for publicity reasons, but fans and just your average person even go as far as to say she does not know how to act. So in a cloud of controversy and mystery as is so usual for the new actress of the upcoming super spy movie Salt, Jolie walks tall and proud representing the growing power of the modern-day woman.

This article was based from multiple sources and hours of research the information was garnered mainly from the following websites:

Good point regarding the role choices, and the good thing going for Angelina Jolie is the fact that she has held her own doing action packed movies in the past like Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, so Salt may as well work for her.

Movie Review: Grown Ups

A Review on Adam Sandler's "Grown Ups" - Coming Soon to Theaters

What's NOT to like about this movie?

Even though Zohan sucked, Adam Sandler's upcoming movie Grown Ups was actually really funny, and yet light-hearted enough to maybe bring your kids too see (maybe). Though the comedy was punchy with testosterone-filled jokes, everyone could really appreciate the humor conjured up by comedic geniuses like Sandler, David Spade, Chris Rock, Kevin James and Rob Schneider.

Picture this:
- Chris Rock as a house husband/Mr. Mom
- Sandler not undertaking a crazy, weird persona, and playing a good average dad
- David Spade as a womanizing bachelor who wants to nail Rob Schneider's daughters
- Schneider as a sensitive soul who has an old lady wife and two daughters so gorgeous no one believes he's the father

Though the comedy was punchy with testosterone-filled jokes, everyone could really appreciate the humor
The plot: mediocre; the jokes themselves: funny. The pace of the movie: slower. The rating I forsee: PG-13 (Did I mention the amount of times Maria Bello whips out her booby to feed her four-year old son?)
This movie may not be as racy a comedy as it could have been, but I believe the point was to make it tasteful enough for everyone in the family to see. Kids under ten won't get the perverted references anyway, unless your eleven year old son has Playboys stashed under his bed already. Even so, when this movie does release for everyone to see, YOU SHOULD GO SEE IT.
Grown Ups is a testament to us adults that fun and games are not just for children. I would, and will, see it again.

Will the Tron Legacy Movie Be This Year's Defining Science Fiction Film?

Will the Tron Legacy Movie Be This Year's Defining Science Fiction Film?
By Andrew Hawnt

I think that Tron Legacy is going to surprise a lot of people this year. While it's true there are a great many people waiting for this film to hit and continue the much loved tale of the Tron universe, their number may not be huge enough to warrant a big hit for the film. However, the making of this new movie is generating a huge amount of interest around the world, which is being generated by the diehard Tron fans ourselves rather than any huge marketing campaign.

While there is some marketing in action already for the film, Disney have not laid it on thick yet. This is very clever, as they are essentially, right now anyway, allowing the fans to create the mystique surrounding the project.

There are tons of new fans flocking to the original movie and discovering the masterpiece that it is thanks to the excitement being shown by long-standing fans. I think that the Tron Legacy movie is going to give us a spectacular vision of a very different world we have seen to anything else in film since the original Tron movie.

That's something that has always been amazing about the first Tron movie - nothing had looked like it before, and nothing has looked like it since. It stands alone in the movie world as something truly unique and interesting, and the visuals are some of the most iconic that have ever been created. Light cycles, discs, cool costumes and incredible science fiction images are once again the order of the day with the Tron Legacy movie, and I genuinely believe we are going to have a new classic on our hands.

It already made history before the film was completed due to it being a sequel with the most number of years between it and the original of any movie ever (which still carries members of the original cast), and I believe that will be just one way the film makes its presence felt for years to come. It may even have a chance of being seen as just as much as an innovator as the original.

The trailers for the Tron Legacy movie have started to surface now, along with a few more images and so on, and everything is pointing to a film that has been created with a quiet confidence in the quality of its content. That's something to be admired, and I shall indeed be there in line to see the long awaited Tron Legacy movie when it arrives.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Andrew_Hawnt

There is a good chance that Tron Legacy will indeed be a hit film and it is refreshing indeed to find Jeff Bridges as part of the cast.

Movie Review: Predators

Film Review - Predators (2010)
By Todd Murphy

BOTTOM LINE: After 23 years, Hollywood has finally made a worthy sequel to the cult classic, despite lacking some of the colour, character, thrills and mystery of the original.

THE GOOD: From the outset it is clear that director Nimrod Antal knew exactly what made the original Predator so good; wasting no time whatsoever, the film opens with a dramatic free fall for character Royce (Adrien Brody) as he regains consciousness while plummeting from the sky and lands in a jungle courtesy of an attached parachute. He is joined soon after by a band of other tough people who have been similarly dropped in to this jungle. Before long, this group who distrust each other come to recognise they are in the same situation, and as they start to help each other, they realise that they are on another planet and that something is hunting them. Going back to the jungle setting was the right thing, but the idea of creating an alien planet where the Predators deposit their game is a cool take on the story. It allows for the kinds of situations that we saw in the original film, but is free to explore some new territory. The first attack sequence by Predator dogs is fascinating, as are some of the hunting trap sequences. The film also does not take the easy option of slamming in wall-to-wall action, but rather takes its time to develop the characters and the situation. There are some nice touches, including different variations of Predators, a great Samurai-style fight and an intriguing final battle. The subplots involving Laurence Fishburne and Topher Grace are quite fresh for this story, and add a different slant to the proceedings. Even the music score closely adheres to Alan Silvestri's original music. "Predators" is a worthy sequel to the cult classic; monster-fighting fun wrapped inside a well executed high concept plot.

THE BAD: Being a sequel, the film unfortunately has lost some of the flavour of the original. Although the characters are quite good, they do not have the colour that the cast of the original film had. The amount of Predator action is also less than expected, particularly in the first half, and given the film has a plural title, you would be right to expect more; as a result, the film at times plays more like a remake than a sequel. The thrills and sci-fi mystery are diluted as well; the death scenes do not seem uniquely shocking or scary, and the sci-fi mystery that created a sense of awe and wonder in the first film is absent. It may just be that we have already seen this scenario so it loses its effect.

For the original review, follow this link: http://www.allaboutmovies.net/filmreviewpredators.htm

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Todd_Murphy

After all the past flops using the Predator franchise, this one finally lived up as a competent follow-up to the original.

Movie Review: Knight and Day

Movie Review: Knight and Day
By Shaz Ferouz

Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz are back in this year's summer action comedy Knight and Day. It's the second movie both of these A list Hollywood actors have acted in after the 2001 film Vanilla Sky. Which was a pretty friggin weird movie if you recall. Formally titled "Wichita" and "Trouble man", this film originally slated Chris Tucker and Eva Mendes as the two lead roles. Apparently Chris Tucker didn't want to do the Movie unless Jackie Chan was included as well. He also insisted they changed the title to Rush Hour 4 for some reason. Seriously though I think it just came down to the fact that nobody would buy Tucker as a spy. This movie is far fetched as it is.

Anyway Tom Cruise plays a spy *que Mission Impossible Music*, not exactly like Ethan Hunt however he plays a less serious, cornier version of his Mission Impossible character called Roy Miller. Da Da Da Duh Dum. Cameron Diaz plays June Havens who unwittingly gets entangled with him at an airport and now her life is in danger.

I did like how the movie started but it slowly spiraled down a path of big smiles, unrealistic action and predictable humor. The only saving factor for this movie was the fact that Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz were acting in it. These two A list actors took what would have been a B grade movie and turned it into something that's actually semi watchable. I'm actually a little surprised both of them agreed to take the roles.

It was entertaining at some parts though and shot in various locations around the world. So if you're in the mood for a generic Hollywood action adventure where the bad guys have such terrible aim that even after thousands of bullets have been fired hitting everything in sight but still managing some how to miss main characters, this might be your movie. Otherwise you might want to save your money for Toy Story 3. I hear that might be a good one.

I rate this movie 2.5 out of 5

For more, Movie News, Previews, Entertainment News and Videos check out Dotcom.my.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Shaz_Ferouz

So with this Knight and Day movie, despite a few concerns, Tom Cruise has still proven to be a bankable star. His on-screen chemistry with Cameron Diaz is considered to be good as well. Just watching a couple of Knight and Day movie trailers gives the idea that they click in their latest film together.

Movie Review: Toy Story 3

Movie Review - Toy Story 3
By Tatta Matt

Unarguably the best among the three; Toy Story franchise returns with it's final edition in a 3D avatar for one last time. Directed by Lee Unkrich and produced by Disney Pixar, Toy Story 3 - one of the most loved animated movie - runs for 1 hour 45 minutes, making it a short and sweet adventure tale of lifeless toys, that speak a mind of their own.

Andy the kid, who once had a huge collection of toys in his room, has now grown up into a hand-some teenager, soon he will join college and it is time for him to put his beloved toys away, though they are still in perfect shape. Woody the sheriff is hopeful that Andy will tuck them away safely in the attic so that when he has kids of his own, they'll play with the toys someday, but Wood's and his friends' dreams are short-lived, for, Andy's mother is of the opinion that the toys be discarded as nobody would play with them once Andy leaves home.

As Andy picks up Woody and Buzz Light Year, his heart skips a beat yet again for the two of his favourite toys and he wants to take them to college with him. So he puts the two in a box which he would take away to college and others in a bag that his mom will donate to a nearby kid's day care centre. His mom mistakenly picks up the other bag, thinking it is trash and throws it out of the house. Woody is now in a fix. He has to save his friends. Off he jumps the window, saves his friends form trash van and they all crash land in the box that is to be donated to Sunnyside Day care.

Sunnyside Day care is now altogether new and fascinating home for the toys. An unknown place where they are accorded a warm welcome by other toys. But their grief of being discarded by Andy still looms, until they meet Losto - the Pink Bear. Woods tries to convince his friends to return to Andy, but the toys have now taken a disliking for him and decided to stay back at the day care centre, with different kids each day, playing with them all day long. The unruly kids of the day care get the better of Andy's toys and it is now they have been trapped by Lotso. Someone's arm is missing, while someone else's nose goes for a toss! The toys are in an utter mess and now want to break free.

Then on begins their adventure journey through the day care centre with loads of twists and turns. How they manage to save their life and whether Andy takes all of them to college is a must watch, the plot of the story flows smoothly throughout and does not give way to confusion. Even if you haven't seen the earlier two instalments; it doesn't confuse you a bit. You get the gist of the story the moment it begins to roll on screen. Also the romantic angle of a heart broken Barbie and Ken is well picturised. All toys play their characters well on the screen and same goes for voice over artists behind the scenes.
All in all... Toy Story is a must watch for people of all ages. Go Watch it.

The author has an online tips blog, where he writes on a variety of topics regularly. The above article is a Movie Review on Toy Story 3.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Tatta_Matt

For me I think that it is refreshing to find a second sequel to be as good as Toy Story 3. The Toy Story 3 characters really showed their charisma.

Movie Review: The A-Team

Movie Review: The A-Team
By Shaz Ferouz

Don't you just love remakes? With so many adaptations/remakes running around I suppose it was just a matter of time before The A-Team got remade. Based of the TV series which ran from 1983- 1987 a lot of us might not have had a chance to watch it or remember it very well because we were too young. So if you did remember the series well. Dude! You are so old. The good thing about not really remembering this series is that I went to watch as an average movie goer with no expectations a fan might have. Which is a nice change.

The movie stars Liam Neeson as Colonel John "Hannibal" Smith (Liam Neeson), Bradley Cooper as Templeton "Faceman" Peck, Quinton Jackson as B.A. Baracus and Sharlto Copley as H.M. "Howling Mad" Murdock. Jessica Biel plays DCIS Captain Charissa Sosa and the film is directed by Joe Carnahan.

Now the A-Team stands for Alpha Team and just like in the TV series, are sent on a super top secret mission. Upon their return to base however they find their commanding officer who gave them the order, murdered, and therefore they have no proof that they were acting under orders. They are then sent to a maximum security facility but of course, they escape. Which makes me worry about maximum security facilities in general. The A-Team now go looking for the people that set them up. The storyline has been modified from Vietnam to Iraq but its generally the same.

Liam Neeson has pretty much played every conceivable character there is to play by adding Hannibal to this already long list of roles. Jedi Knight, Greek God, King of the Beasts you name it Mr Neeson has done it. So this role would hardly be a challenge for him. Don't you just love it when a plan comes together?

A lot of us will remember Bradley Cooper from The Hangover and he is well suited for the womanizer Faceman. Plus he is eye candy apparently. If the girls I hang out with are any indication of what girls in general feel about him that is.

Copley as Howling Mad Murdock is probably going to be audience's most favorite character. The mad pilot from hell who gave Baracus his fear of flying? Whats not to love? What I found out is that Copley is actually a South African producer, actor, and director who produced and directed several short films for the Cannes Film Festival. Didn't see that coming I must say.

I'm actually the most impressed with Quinton Jackson who plays Bad Attitude Baracus. Now filling the shoes of Mr-T will be a big task indeed. For those who do not know Quinton is also known as Rampage Jackson, and is an American mixed martial artist. He acted in several reality TV shows including The Ultimate Fighter 7 and is a trained UFC fighter. After watching the movie thats pretty scary stuff. You don't ever want to get into a fight with 6 foot 1, 93 KG guy that looks like that. What impresses me however is the fact that this guy isn't actually an actor per say like the other three but he plays his role very well.

Overall it was a generally enjoyable movie with a nice blend of humor and action. Probably not the most original plot or storyline but it has decent jokes and a lot of explosions. So don't expect too much and I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy this movie.

"I ain't gettin on no plane!" Sorry couldn't help myself.

I rate the movie 3 out of 5

Well, this A-Team movie has lived up to the tradition of non-stop action and thrills. Although the new A-Team members may not be as cool as the original, it is enough for an good action film.

Movie Review: Twilight Saga - Eclipse

Twilight Saga - Eclipse
By Nadia Shami

I have never read the book. I only know about the Edward-Bella-Jacob love triangle by watching the films. Well, in fact I have tried listening to New Moon audio book that's why I was a little confident in explaining to my friends the vague parts of the film.

It takes a week to finish one audio book; but it takes a year to wait before you can watch each movie.

Twilight phenomenon started in 2008. When I heard the news that Twilight was coming out on theaters on November of that year, I already saw a lot of people reading the book. Okay, so what is the point of watching it when there's a book already or vice-versa? Seeing people reading the book never enticed me to read also.

November came, Twilight was already showing; it was on its second week, and I am not still watching. However, one day, I had to end my intrigue. I heard my friends talking about the movie: criticizing the actors, some scenes..etc. Now what, how come these people can't over it? So I watched.

After watching the film, I finally knew who Edward, Bella and Jacob were. And from that time on, I became a fan of--Jacob. I not trying to say the Edward's no good for Bella, but I think for a guy he is too mushy and dramatic. okay enough of it.

Let us skip New Moon and talk about Eclipse.

Man, the movie was superb! I was in awe while watching the film. Yes, you may say "how come you're amazed when its the most uninteresting book of the Saga?"

I do not think so. I think it was the best because for some reason, true love was portrayed in the film. It was in this film where Edward showed his unconditional love for Bella--actually, not only Edward but Jacob too!

In this film, there was an air of seriousness. No more boy-next-door and teenybopper scenes where only the "good looks" of Edward and Jacob were shown. Here, the real theme of the whole Twilight thing was established--both guys were expressing their deep love for Bella.

But, say, the negative parts of this film is that there were a lot of chattering. Bella talks about how she wants Edward to change her into a vampire. Edward talks about how he won't have sex with her until they're married. Jacob talks about how much he loves Bella. Bella talks about how she doesn't love Jacob. Bella's dad talks about how he doesn't trust Edward. And the Cullens talk about Victoria's nefarious plans to wipe them out.

A whole lot of chattering or not--the film was able to deliver a lesson. And this is where I begin to love Edward's character. Old school as it may seems, but its definitely the right thing to do.

*moment of silence* I guess I should leave you hanging, cos the rest of the story is for you to find out. Enjoy the film!

Well, at least the film is an improvement from the last installment, "New Moon" which was to me one long dragging love fest.

Movie Review: The Last Airbender

"For a film that featured a boy bending Earth, Air, Water and Fire, “The Last Airbender” ends up bending movie elements - the WRONG way.”

“I slept while watching the movie” a colleague of mine remarked.

“Why?” I asked.

“Because of too much dance routines!”

Oh yes - the “dance routines”. My colleague was referring to the lengthy head, body and torso movements a gifted person makes just to be able to control the elements of Earth, Air, Water and Fire in the movie.

Too bad that’s not the only reason to fall asleep.

Plot Mess

Adapted from the American animated tv series, “Avatar: The Last Airbender”, the movie had the makings of a good-to-watch summer hit based on its anticipation from its trailers and initial feedback.

But scenes usually begin with a subtitle explaining where it takes place, and after awhile would shift to another place, then zipping back to another, then crossing over back to an earlier scene for some moments and then…

Well, you get the idea. Director M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense) tries to make the film look epic in scope by introducing so many locations yet as the pace moves so does confusion on the storylines.

Another “Slumdog” performance from Dev Patel this ain’t.

Dev Patel is the likely familiar actor here best known for his role in “Slumdog Millionaire”, but a bad script limited his abilities this time around. Noah Ringer, who plays child protagonist Aang, will be best remembered for his moves on controlling the elements and little else. And let’s not even go to the romantic angle between the other two major characters. The dialogue is laughable in some parts, which wasn’t even intended as a sense of humor attempt in the first place.

Special effects saved the film

Credit Industrial Light and Magic for saving this film from being a complete letdown, as the special effects were the most exciting parts amidst the camera work of M. Night which gives you the visual interface impression of watching an interactive website where a certain area being focused on gives a particular action or event centered on Aang showcasing his powers against their foes.

In summary, this is a failed fantasy adventure with a danger of being made into a trilogy.

“Dance routines” for two more movies like this?

Think I’ll fall asleep as well.

Spiderman's New Peter Parker has been chosen. Why Andrew Garfield?

British actor Andrew Garfield (Lions for Lambs) has been chosen by Sony Pictures to portray Peter Parker in an upcoming new Spiderman film.

He was selected over such actors as Anton Yelchin, Josh Hutcherson, Aaron Johnson and Jamie Bell.

Wonder why Andrew was selected among all the potential actors to play this career-defining role?

What were the factors that had studio execs favor him?

It will be interesting how this turns out.

The film "The Last Airbender" is a bad movie? Twitter says so, here's a sampling:

kevjumba Last Airbender has a 6% rating on rotten tomatoes. Yikes, that's even worse than the Dragonball movie. #racistmoviesneverwin

ebertchicago "The Last Airbender" is an agonizing experience in every category I can think of and others still waiting to be invented. http://j.mp/9xFzbu

MerryMasquerade The Last Airbender is one of those movies that has a good *story* (judging by the series it's based on), but a HORRIBLE script. (And actors)
